Past continuous (lesson 3+4)
The past continuous tense refers to a continuing action that was happening at some point in the past.
Form:
The past tense of to be (was/were)+verb’s present participle (-ing word).
At 6 o’clock, she was eating dinner.
Negative sentences
We insert not between the auxiliary verb and the main verb.
She was not eating dinner
Question sentences,
we exchange the subject and the auxiliary verb.
Was she eating dinner?
Examples
- He was working at 10pm last night.
- At 8pm, I was watching a movie
- They were not playing football at 9am this morning.
- Were you reading a book at 10pm last night?
